PSD has played a dual role in the preparation for the recovery of the Costa Concordia.
Initially, PSD supplied UK based drilling contractor Fugro Seacore with desanding equipment to remove cuttings from the drilling fluid, before returning the fluid to the sea during the drilling of the rock sockets for the sub-sea piles for the platform on to which the vessel was rolled.
In the weeks running up to the parbuckling operation, PSD supplied Titan Salvage with an SS150DP desander and SU8DP desilter, which were used to remove debris from the sea bed following the drilling operation. PSD's part in the operation was critical to gaining the approval of the Italian government in the salvage operation.
The Costa Concordia capsized in shallow waters of the Italian island in Giglio in January 2012 with the loss of 32 lives.
